The third graders have been collecting goods for the animals who don’t have homes at the Animal Welfare Shelter in West Kennebunk.  Their goal was to get 206 items donated.  As of this morning they had 157 items.  Please help them bring in the last 49 items.

Just a reminder there is an early release this Friday (December 8th) and on Friday, December 22nd.  Dismissal is at 12:15 pm and there will be no a la carte for 4th and 5th graders.

Picture retake day will be Monday, December 11th.

Yesterday lunch menus for the month of December went home with children.

We have not received the information from Lifetouch in order to proceed with picture retakes.  As soon as we have a date rescheduled we will let you know.  Thank you for your patience.

This was just added yesterday (Friday) and we wanted to get the message out there. Lifetouch will be at the school on Friday, December 1st in the morning for retakes. If you want your child to have a retake please send the original picture with your child.

The PTA started their Fall fundraiser on Monday with an assembly by Ms. Money. She entertained the children and help to motivate some to sell the products from the Kathryn Beich catalogs. This fundraiser will run through Tuesday, October 11th. The PTA receives 50% of the gross sales to help support the students at the Mildred L. Day School.

The fundraiser can be shared with people from away. Please read through the paper in child’s packet to register yourself online so people from away can help your child out with this fundraiser. Sales done online are shipped directly to the person! Registration is quick and easy.

The PTA is meeting tonight (Tuesday) at 7pm. Any questions about the fundraiser may be directed to Ann Counts.

The 06-07 School Year is right around the corner. Teachers are coming in setting up their classrooms. There are some changes in where some teachers are compared to past years. The school may not look ready today but the school will be ready in time for the start of school, September 5th.

Kindergarten Orientation for the newest/youngest students of the Mildred L. Day School community will be Wednesday, August 30th from 9:00-10:30. The Kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Aportria and Mrs. Frisbie, will be providing parents all of the information necessary for the kindergartner’s to start school on September 5th. The school will also arrange for a bus ride to help the anxiety factor.

On the first night of school we will be holding our Parent Information Night. The Parent Information Night starts at 6:00 pm and ends at 7:30 pm. Staff in grades 1-5 will be there providing parents and children information about the child’s classroom. Look for more specific details from your child(s)’ teacher on the first day of school.

This year’s Parent Information Night will offer parents and children the chance to check our the classroom, meet the teachers, and tour the building. The Unified Art teachers will be in the library to meet parents and their children. The PTA usually has a table for those interested in joining signup.

This was included with the progress reports (just in case you weren’t aware progress went home on Friday).

If you didn’t get it you can download it here.

This was originally posted on the town’s website. It seemed appropiate to place here to make sure as many people know about it as the date is coming up quickly. Please note the date is the Sunday of a long weekend. For disclosure purposes this comes from Thornton Academy and not from the school.

Here is the direct link to the invitation.

For those of you who do not have adobe acrobat reader. Here is the text of the invitation:

Thornton Academy invites
Arundel residents to a
Middle School Open House
on Sunday, January 15,
from 1 to 2:30 pm.
Come meet
Head of Middle School Stephen Marquis
and join the banner raising ceremony.

Coffee, hot chocolate, cookies and cups of chili from the middle
school food company will help warm the winter weather. The new
middle school will be laid out to scale so visitors can walk around and
stand inside where future classrooms and hallways will be.
Headmaster Carl J. Stasio, Jr. and Board President James Nelson
will introduce the new head of the middle school Stephen Marquis.
Any fifth, sixth and seventh graders from Arundel—who will be the
first classes in September 2006—will be invited to participate in unrolling
the middle school banner.
Any storm cancellations would be added to the TA phone greeting
at 282-3361. The easiest access parking is at the end of Fairfield
near the back of what is the student parking lot. Because some areas
will be blocked off for foot traffic and banner ceremony, call ahead to
arrange closer handicap parking (282-3361, ext. 234).
